Setting Intentions

As the return to school comes around in what feels like a very quick time this year, Autumn is knocking at the door, and we have hardly taken a breath before thinking about what’s next. As the season starts to change it’s a great time to start thinking about setting intentions for ourselves. A simple task which can really help steer us in the right direction by working out where our energy needs to be directed. Take a few minutes to yourself, make a cup of tea and note down what you would like to see more of this month.

Think about what your body and mind need as a starting point. Perhaps you might want to focus more on self-care in whatever form that looks like for you. Maybe getting outside for regular walks, having a dedicated hour to read a book or seeing more of your favourite people. Is there something new you wanted to learn this year? Spending a few minutes reflecting on these things can really help ensure you take the right direction and do not get swept along with everyday bustle.

For me, I am focusing on diarising my self-care time to avoid it getting lost in my busy week. One of those things is more walks outside. Now the weather is cooling a little this is more achievable and I know I feel better for it. Perhaps your yoga practice is one of those self-care things you would like to prioritise. It’s easy to slip out of routine over the summer but it’s a perfect opportunity to reset and set out your routine.

As the night draws in a focus on good sleep can be beneficial. Adding some cosy elements to your room and trying out more restorative poses can really help wind down form the day and support better sleep. Listening to a guided relaxation or focusing on your breathing can be great things to add into your bedtime routine.

So grab that notepad and pen and start planning that new routine. Tiny actions can make real progress.

Start small and just note 1 or 2 things you would like to see more of in your routine. Review regularly and you can add more later.
